An amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather of four, Alan Peter Syverson passed away April 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
Alan Peter Syverson was born December 1, 1944, in Almora, Minnesota to Sylvia Faehnrich and John Syverson. Growing up with his siblings Harvey, Floyd (Bob), Rebecca, and Patricia and his cousin Darliss, he attended the little school in Amora through eighth grade. He then went on to graduate from high school in Henning. Knowing farm life was not for him, Alan enlisted in the Army, serving in Germany.
After his stint in the Army, Alan returned home and started to work. At the advice of his stepdad Millard, he went to work as a carpenter in the Iron Range. He then worked in machine shops for a while until settling on the construction field. Over the years, Alan worked his way from carpenter up to general superintendent for Kraus Anderson, Kitchell, Manhattan, and Austin Commercial. Building impressive structures such as the Rivercenter Mall, the Ballpark in Arlington, the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City, the W Hotel, and the Omni Hotel, to name a few. “A master builder, he built the best.” Even after he retired, his expertise was called upon several times as he was asked to consult on different projects.
Shortly after he got out of the Army, Alan was introduced to a woman who would become his wife. His cousin Darleen brought her co-worker Barbara Wanner home for the weekend and introduced the two. Although Alan pretended not to be interested, when another guy asked to drive Barbara home from a dance that evening, Alan punched him and drove her home himself. Within two weeks they knew they would marry and were married on October 28, 1967. Over the next few years, they welcomed children Thomas Lee, David John, and Catherine Barbara. A dedicated husband and father, Alan worked hard to provide for his family. He was an attentive father, coaching Tom and David’s little league team and rebuilding old cars for them as they became teens, along with spending time with his daughter, including taking her on a special date to Steak and Ale when Barbara was out of town. As is often the case with construction jobs, he often had to move for the next project, so he and his family moved from Minnesota to North Dakota, Iowa, Arizona, Dallas, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C., before finally settling in Fort Worth. All this moving created a very strong family unit that enjoyed time spent exploring the newest region. In their RV, they traveled through the mountains of Arizona and the lakes and coast of Texas. As the kids grew older and the grandkids came along, they began taking yearly family vacations back to Minnesota, renting cabins on the lake. They then built their dream cabin on Stuart Lake, where they enjoyed their summers. Alan’s love for his wife was always visible to everyone, but even more so after she became ill. Their love was an amazing sight to see.
A devout man of God, Alan was raised in the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed quiet moments reading his Bible. He loved spending time in his workshop, fishing for Walleye in Minnesota, watching old westerns on TV, firing up the smoker to make a brisket or ribs, and drinking a cold beer.
Alan leaves behind his beloved wife Barbara, his son and daughter-in-law Tom and Dawn Syverson, his son David Syverson, his daughter Cathy Incardona; his grandchildren Kristina and Matt Ellis, TJ and Erica Syverson, Matt Syverson, Viktoriya Syverson, Jacob Incardona, Catie Incardona, Joseph Incardona, and Dominick Incardona; his great-grandchildren Weston Ellis, Violet Ellis, Eleanore Syverson, and Charlotte Syverson; his sister and brother-in-law Rebecca and Terry Iverson; his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Michael Flanagin; his brother Floyd Aldrich; his sister-in-law Kate Karger; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edwin and Patricia Wanner; and a host of nieces and nephews.
