Robert Eugene Dawkins (Bob)
1949 - 2015
Robert Eugene “Bob” Dawkins, a devoted husband, father, brother and friend, passed away peacefully August 5, 2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Bob was born to Robert T. and Angeline R. Dawkins in Chadron, Nebraska. The family moved to Texas in 1964.
Bob was well known as a man of integrity. He was honest, straightforward and a man full of love for his family. Many in this community remember Bob as a trusted electrician who was always fair and precise in his work; he was a perfectionist in everything he did.
Bob had many talents. He was an avid horseman who raised his children as equestrians. He made certain they were always mindful that “horsemanship and sportsmanship go hand in hand”. The Dawkins family spent many hours competing in play days and their many horses were and remain members of the family too. Bob was also an artist who worked with wood and leather. He could build anything, from trinket boxes to their love filled home. He was an avid collector with a sharp eye and loved pocket knives. Bob worked side by side with his wife buying and selling antiques for many years as owners of their business, Grandview Antique Mall.
Bob met Patricia Shue when she was sixteen and upon their first meeting told her he was going to marry her. They were together, side by side, for over forty-five years. He was a natural caregiver and protector. Bob looked after everyone he cared about. He loved fishing with his grandsons and watching them play football. Bob had a quick wit and a great smile.
Bob is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Patricia Ann Dawkins; daughter, Tina and husband Eddie Nolen; son, Shon and wife Amanda Dawkins. He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd and wife LaDeane Dawkins; sisters, Ruth Dawkins and Karen Dawkins; grandchildren, Robert, Bobby, Colten, Cassadee and Shon Jr., as well by his wife’s mother, Mrs. Mae Laverne Shue; bothers-in-law, Ernest and wife Teresa Shue, Glen and wife Dora Shue; and sister-in-law, Pam and husband Chris Giffert. Bob leaves behind many nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, friends and business associates. He was preceded in death by son, Robert and parents, Robert T. and Angeline Dawkins.
In lieu of flowers, donations to honor the memory of Bob may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org. Please feel free to contact a family member if you need any assistance. The family appreciates the kindness and care provided by many caregivers but is especially grateful to Mr. Christopher D.
