Billy started his rodeo career at the ripe age of 13 years old on junior bulls at an arena in Mesquite, Texas in 1950-1951. He took so naturally, he almost immediately started competing in the open door amateur rodeos, and was winning or placing regularly. He competed and traveled with some of the best, i.e.: WALT GARRISON, JOHNNY CLARK, RYAN HEFLIN, BOBBY SULLIVAN, BILL WADE, ROY DUVALL, WARNER LEATHERMAN, ED WORKMAN, ED WRIGHT, and the list goes on. He hauled and competed with Walt Garrison for a long time, until he injured his knee and had to quit for his football career. Billy’s riding bag is Walt Garrison’s old football equipment bag that Walt had given him and he still has it. Ed Wright was the main man that took him under his wings. He competed in the CRA, TRA, SRA, IRA and RCA from the mid 50’s to the late 80’s. In the CRA 1958-1963 he competed in bull riding, saddlebronc and bulldogging for the all-around titles. He retired from rough stock in the mid-80’s and competed in bulldogging. He had one of the 1st practice pens for the high school kids to come and learn to bulldog, chute dog and steer un-decorate. He supplied many a great bull dogging team to high school competitors and serious rodeo competitors.
Billy leaves to cherish his memories, Wife, JoCarol Dugger; Daughter, Jewel Dugger Johnson and her family; Son, Zane Dugger and his family; along with numerous other loving family and friends who love and will miss him dearly.
