Shirley Dupre

August 7, 1934 — October 21, 2013

Shirley Anne Dupre, 79, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
Graveside service: A family service will be held at a later date in Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth. Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield.

Shirley was born in Wink in 1934 to Elmer and Corrine Caywood. The family moved all over West Texas with her father's job as a motion picture projectionist. Settling in Fort Worth, Shirley graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1952. She married Marvin Ray Dupre, an airman from Louisiana, stationed at Carswell Air Force Base. Together, they had children, Mike and Elisa. Living in Mississippi, Hawaii and South Carolina, Shirley made life a great adventure for her family. She was a Girl and Boy Scout leader, a talented artist, a cook of exotic dishes and a lifelong lover of culture. She played classical piano and gave lessons. An excellent seamstress, Shirley made clothing and crocheted many items. She had greenhouses at several homes and always a yard full of flowers. She was self-educated, reading thousands of books in her lifetime. Shirley was a member of the Arlington Arts Association, Beta Sigma Phi, Theater Arlington and the Arlington Environmental Task Force. She was the promotion director at Forum 303 Mall for 23 years, and an antique dealer with her husband. She loved antique dolls, including her childhood Shirley Temple doll. She had a huge love for animals, having many cats and dogs over the years.
Shirley was vivacious, with a wonderful, hearty laugh. Her motto was "Dull women have immaculate houses." She felt that her best role was that of mother and grandmother. She spent hours playing Barbies or cars, making mud pies or role-playing with her children and grandchildren, never worrying about making a mess. She lived life to the fullest and loved without judgment.
Shirley lived with Alzheimer's for the last few years of her life, which was a cruel irony to her great intelligence. Avalon Alzheimer's Assisted Living in Arlington was her last home in her life journey. Not a day in the last five years went by without our mother being hugged, kissed and told she was loved by the staff there.
We will miss that infectious laughter, warm hugs and kisses and unconditional love. We will always have the memory of the twinkle in her aqua eyes and her passion for life.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Ray; and sister, Carole Cannafax.
Survivors: Son, Mike Dupre and wife, Sheryl; grandson, Connor; daughter, Elisa Cole, husband, Barry; grandchildren, Kristen Cole and Jordan Cole (Kristen); daughter, Ann Brannon and family; and many other friends and family members.
