Robert Leo Geer, 88, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018. He was born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Dallas, TX to Samuel Albert Geer and Irene Novice Heard. Robert spent his childhood years in Palmer, Texas, and then moved to Oak Cliff in Dallas, TX. He joined the Air Force at the young age of 18 and was stationed at Reese Air Force Base for 4 years. He developed a love for photography and flying and upon leaving the Air Force, he pursued a private and commercial pilot’s license and owned his own plane. He was a member of the Professional Photographer’s Association of Louisiana, and the U.S. Department of Commerce Civil Aeronautics Administration and flew for the Civil Air Patrol. His photography skills landed him jobs in NASA photographing the astronauts as they trained in anti-gravity training, LSU Medical school as chief photographer for surgeons, motion picture jobs, one of which took him to South America. He was a lead photographer for the first film to show at the grand opening of the World’s Hemisphere in 1968. He loved the country and great outdoors. In addition to that, he was also a certified scuba diver. Robert had a full and colorful life.
Around the age of 75, Robert was diagnosed with progressive Dementia and Alzheimer Disease. He had a long struggle and continued to rally against this disease until the very end. I cannot communicate my gratitude enough for the numerous doctors, caregivers and support given through VA Dallas, the VA Medical Foster Homes, Caregivers and Hospice. His journey was made so much more meaningful and care was given with compassion and understanding.
