George Calvin Dethloff has peacefully passed away on January 7, 2025, at the age of 86.
George was born on May 29, 1938, in Bridgeport, Texas to Kossie Buckner Dethloff and Ruby Melissa Bishop. Despite not finishing school, he went on to get a GED and then take several classes at TCJC in Geology. He loved history and geology. Despite having a reading disability, he was an avid reader and a life-long learner. Education was extremely important, and he spent his daughters’ formative years taking them on educational trips to museums, and historical sights.
George joined the US Navy in 1955 and proudly served for 4 years. After leaving the Navy he joined the Forest Service in Northern California, he worked for the Fort Worth Water Department where he met his wife, Jane. George and Jane got married on October 18, 1975, in Fort Worth, Texas. He also worked at Sid Smith Landscaping for a time, then spent many years at Khaki's restaurant, before finally retiring after 20 years as a butcher for Kroger.
George was a member of the Worldwide Church of God and he was a part of the Church of God Worldwide Association from 1962 until his passing. He loved God and often would read his bible for hours a day. He always observed the Holy Days of his church even when he was no longer able to physically attend church services. He loved digging in the dirt, cleaning up the yard (it didn’t matter whose yard it was), planting, rearranging the yard, and basically tinkering around all day long. He could never sit still.
His family would like to thank his beloved sister-in-law Nancy Carroll for her constant love and support over the last several years. He loved when she would come over and sit with him or just come over to shoot the breeze.
George is preceded in death by his grandparents, LouElla and George Dethloff; his parents, Kossie and Ruby Dethloff; his sisters, Viola Lois Dethloff, Irene Dethloff, Reba Gregory, Lucille Daley, and Joyce Otten; his brother, Leroy Dethloff; his son-in-law, Travis Lancaster.
