Our beloved Dave Gray, Jr. was born June 21, 1948 in Tallulah, Louisiana. He was the oldest of three siblings born to the union of Mr. Dave Gray, Sr. and Mrs. Lena Hattin. Although Dave was born in Louisiana, he grew up in the Motor City (Detroit Michigan). Oh how he loved Motown and the music of that day. He never stopped playing the Motown sounds around the house. He loved Gospel music even more. In his earlier years and in the military he was nicknamed “Dap” because he was such a dapper dresser.
Dave leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving wife of 20 years, Mrs. Cynthia Gray, 2 siblings: Mr. Paul Gray, and Barbara Gray of Detroit, MI., along with two daughters, Ms. Toni Terry, and Ms. Melonee Hobbs, of St. Paul, MN. and grandchildren, too numerous to count.
Dave graduated from McKinzie Highschool in Detroit, MI., and soon after he joined the U.S. Army where he served as a military policeman for 20 years, retiring in 1991. While serving in the military at White Sands Missile Range, NM., Dave attended New Mexico State University (evening classes), and received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. After retiring from the military, he worked as a corrections officer in the New Mexico State Prison system, and later was hired by the Department of Homeland Security as a Customs and Border Protection Officer (retiring a second time in 2012).
During his life, he was a loving husband, proud father, doting grandfather, caring son and brother, as well as a great friend. He loved life and lived it abundantly as the Word says. He and his wife became members of Meadowridge Community Baptist Church in 2016, where he loved serving as a Tarrant County Food Bank worker, and he enjoyed attending Life Groups on Sunday after church, and the men’s prayer meetings when held on Saturdays .
