Jamie Harris

Jamie Harris, was born August 3, 1964. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. Jamie Harris passed away on November 25, 2018 after a long hard fought battle with cancer.

Visitation: 6-8PM Friday, November 30, 2018 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral Service: 1 PM Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, Texas. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Cancer Care Services through Texas Oncology where Jamie received his excellent medical care and treatment. As a teenager Jamie began working at our neighbor, Kirby’s Radiator Shop. He worked a short time at an Albertson’s grocery store. Next, his employment took him to Gateway Auto Supply as a counter salesman. Through a friendship with Corky Wilson, he got a position at Texas Steel and worked there until they went out of business. Jamie’s abilities made him a perfect fit for Investment Recovery Systems. His final job was a salesman with Sunbelt Rentals; a job that was recommended by his friend, Jason McKeever. He loved this job and all the contacts he made. He was a self taught mechanic of anything: tractors, cars, chain saws, lawn mowers weed eaters: you name it he could fix it. The first car he rebuilt was turning a Volkswagen bug into Baja dune buggy. He loved racing of all kinds. As a young man he did flat track motorcycle racing, winning so many trophies he put them in his parents attic. Jamie was a mentor and supporter of Chad Wilson and his mini sprint racing. In the last few years he took up Chump car racing. His health forced him to give up a lot of his race driving but he continued until very recently working on the team’s chump car. He and his Dad, Bill Harris, rebuilt a 1927 Ford Model T Coupe that came from his mother, Mary Kathryn Harris’ cousin, Lyndon Davis. It was a 10 year labor of love. His mother would ask him from time to time, “What is next on the Model T?" He would patiently explain to her what was next and then ask her, “Mom, Do you know anymore now than you did before?” Mother would laugh and answer, “No.” The Model T is a family treasure and a source of family pride.

Jamie took wings and went to heaven surrounded by family and friends. He fought for two and a half years with advanced stage 4 cancer. He didn’t complain and never once “asked why me?” He worked virtually the whole time he had cancer. Cancer was never going to define Jamie and his desire to live. Growing up with Jamie we saw a person who could mechanically figure anything out. Jamie had so many amazing qualities perhaps the greatest lesson we learned from Jamie was the definition of FAMILY. Jamie took family to a different level. He expanded family beyond just blood relations. Friends became family and Jamie would do anything for family. He will be dearly missed!!!!

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Kathryn Harris.
He is survived by his father, William E. Harris; brothers, Arthur (Janis) Harris, Daniel Harris; sisters, Kathy (Mike) Alexander, Sarah (Tom) Harris; Nieces and Nephews, David (Stephanie), Brad (Amy), Susan Alexander, Bryan, Stephen, Robert, Shawn (Dawn) Harris, Blake and Kelly McCarty, Will Harris; great nieces and nephews, Anna, Jack, Rilla.
