John Howard Hicks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 31, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. He was born on January 5, 1938, in Mansfield, Texas. John lived a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and   countless accomplishments.

From an early age, John exhibited an admirable work ethic and pursued his passions with great enthusiasm. After graduating from IM Terrell High School, he attended trade school where he developed valuable skills that would shape his future. John furthered his education by enrolling in the machinist program at TCC, where he earned his associate's degree.

With his education and determination as his tools, John embarked on a fulfilling career. He worked for Vac-Tron Radio and TV Corporation as well as notable establishments such as the Steel Mill, Bell Helicopter, and General Motors where he retired after 25 years of employment. Throughout his career spanning several decades, John contributed significantly to these organizations through his expertise and dedication.

Beyond the workplace, John served his country with honor and pride in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. His service was a testament to his unwavering commitment to defending the freedoms we hold dear.

Outside of work and military service, John cultivated diverse interests that brought him joy and relaxation. Golfing was among his favorite pastimes; he delighted in spending time on the green with family and friends. In addition to golfing, John found solace in gardening and started a small vegetable garden. Furthermore, he was skilled in the art of mechanical work on vehicles—an ability that brought him immense satisfaction.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leemel and Ruby Hicks; his daughter, Tracie Hicks; and his beloved grandmother Bertie Hicks.

John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Hicks. Together they built a foundation of love, support, and strength that served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing them. John is also survived by his children: Crystal Herlong, Shari Wilson, Melanie Fitz, Phillip Hicks, and John Hicks Jr.; his grandchildren,  Christopher Hicks and wife Kandace, Lawrence Johnson, Leslie Wilson and wife Amanda, Jessica Mosley, Adrian Wilson, Phillicia Richard and husband Delwin, Trayala Jackson, Christen Hicks, Taylor Evans, Brandon Hicks, Marquayvious Irving and wife Derrisha; his great-grandchildren, Elayjah Yearby; Ariana Mosley; Adrian Mosley; Marquayvious Irving; Marquayi Irving; Jaxon Wilson; Amara Wilson;     Camden Hicks; Chandler Hicks; Teaylon McGilbra; David McGilbra; Travis Davis; and Tracie Petry; and his best friend, Roger D. Brooks.

John's warmheartedness knew no bounds; it extended from family to friends who   became cherished members of his inner circle. He leaves behind a legacy of love and beautiful memories shared with those closest to him.
