Arlington resident Betty Jo Karle, 81, died Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 at her home with her beloved children and grandchildren by her side. The memorial service will be held on June 6th at 1 p.m. at Skyvue Memorial Gardens in Mansfield, TX. “Jo-Bet”, as she was called by her siblings, was born on Sunday, July 2, 1933 in Foss, OK to William Stanley and Beulah Cates. She and her siblings were raised and schooled in Dill City, OK. In 1951, Betty graduated from Burns Flat High School in the small town of Burns Flat, OK. She continued her education at Southwestern State University in nearby Weatherford, OK, then resumed at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where she obtained an Associate of Arts degree. Betty happily served in the civil service for 29 years. In 1988, she proudly retired from the civil service in a GS-13 position as the acting Chief of NAF Personnel at Carswell AFB, TX. Her connection to the Air Force, via her husbands, had her traveling throughout the United States and Germany. In retirement, Betty enjoyed spending most of time attending church functions with her First Love class at First Baptist Church in Hurst, TX. After retirement, she delighted in traveling, crafts, grandkids, jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles and listening to gospel music. In 2007, Betty was plagued with Alzheimer’s disease. In 2012 she was unable to continue to reside in the independent living facility and moved in with family starting with Sonya and Ric and then shortly thereafter with Taryn. After an unfortunate fall resulting in a broken arm last fall, Betty was unable to fully restore her physical strength. She was in and out of the hospital for several months for various reasons. A few months later, she came home under hospice care where she was cared for by her granddaughters, Taryn Peterson and Tiffany Peterson. Betty is survived by all six of her children: Debbie Nikkel and husband Nick, of Corn OK; Peter Huey of Corn, OK; CJ Ayers of Uncertain, TX; Sonya Morrison and husband Ric of Arlington, TX; Cheryl MacKay of Arlington, TX, and Terilynn Scarbro of Houston, TX.
