EARNEST PAUL MAYS JR was born on April 27, 1931 in Stamford, Texas to the union of Earnest and Zema (Thornton) Mays Sr. He received his education at Booker T. Washington School in Stamford Texas. Earnest united in marriage to Connie (Baker) Mays on October 15, 1956.
He served in the U.S. Armed Services and fought in the Korean War, where he was awarded Purple Heart Honors in 1953. Later after retiring from the army, he worked numerous years as manager of the Stamford Country Club. After retiring from the Country Club, Earnest also became a business man who engaged in raising cattle and other livestock. His hobbies included: fishing, hunting, restoring classic cars to participate in classic car shows, as well as spending time with his family.
Earnest was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, where he served as a deacon for 15+ years. He was also the superintendent of the Sunday School.
Earnest was an avid fan of the Stamford Bulldogs and will always be remembered for his saying, “Way to go Blueboys!”
Earnest Paul Mays Jr departed this life for life eternal on May 16, 2015 in Mansfield, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Paul Mays Sr and Zema Eddington; Two sisters, Fannie Lou Mays and Billie Sue Ray; and One son, Rory Dewayne Mays.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Connie Mays; One sister, Mattie Sue Ford (Billy Ray); One son, Stephen Paul Mays (April) of Abilene, Texas; One daughter, Jacki Earl (Gary Don) of Mansfield, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
