ARLINGTON -- Etta L. Meissner, 93, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015.
Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington. Interment: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at DFW National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield.
Leona grew up in the Polytechnic area of Fort Worth Texas and lived directly behind her future husband of 72 years AJ Meissner. One spring day in 1939 AJ was working on his car in his backyard and Leona went to borrow a cup of sugar. Leona was 16 years old and A J was 19. Leona and A J married 3 years later on December 31, 1942.
Prior to getting married, Mom worked for Quartermaster in Fort Worth doing clerical work.
When she married she was a homemaker and spent much time in the kitchen preparing meals for her family. She also entered many cooking contest and won a number of the Fort Worth Star Telegram contests.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles W. Smith, Albert S. Smith; grandson, Darren Craig Meissner.
Survivors: Loving husband, August J. Meissner; sons, Ronald L. and Harvey L. Meissner; daughter, Winnetta Burt; sister, Lillian Weeks; grandson, Jerrod Trotter; many other loving family and friends.
