Melissa Sue Decker Simon, born on October 26, 1967, in Montague, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024. Melissa was a loving mother, grandmother, devoted sister, and cherished friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.
Melissa was the daughter of Robert Williams and Ethel Clark Heape. Her family moved to Texas when she was 11, and she spent 25 formative years there before relocating to Yucaipa, California, where she resided for two decades. In recent years, Melissa returned to Texas, to stay close to her family and grandchildren. A dedicated professional, Melissa worked for Reliable Permits, where her commitment and diligence were well-regarded for 13 years.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Williams; her brother, Bobby Joe Williams; and her sister, Juanita Lancaster. Melissa is survived by her sons, Michael Wright and Nickolas Wright; her mother, Ethel Heape; and her spouse, Gregg Heape. Her siblings include Ricky Williams (spouse Gina Williams), Freddie Williams, Paul Williams (spouse Katie Williams), Jennifer Sullivan (spouse Van Sullivan), Monica James (spouse Mark James) and Amanda Kennedy (spouse Maureen Kennedy. She is also remembered by her beloved grandchildren Kristabelle, Isis, and Atticus. Melissa is also survived by her many cherished nieces and nephews, including Adriane Garland, Mike Lynn, Kimberlee Tubinez and Averie James, who were especially close to her heart.
Melissa was a cherished soul who touched the lives of so many, spanning from Massachusetts to Texas and all the way to California. Melissa was a breast cancer survivor, whose strength and determination inspired all who knew her. She faced her battle with courage and grace, becoming a beacon of hope and perseverance. A true lover of motorcycles, she found freedom and peace on the open road. Whether cruising down the highways or cheering for her beloved Dallas Cowboys, she embraced her passions. But above all, Melissa's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved them deeply, nurturing them with boundless affection and wisdom. Her time spent with them was filled with laughter, warmth, and unforgettable moments, and her legacy will live on through them. Melissa will be remembered for her kind heart, her infectious smile, and the love she shared so generously. While her physical presence will be missed, her spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
