John Paul Negratti, 55, passed peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2014 after a 7 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. His devoted family and faithful friends kept constant vigil and surrounded him with love.
Service: 12 p.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Interment: Skyvue Memorial Gardens. Rosary: 3 p.m. Sunday at Skyvue Funeral Home.
John came into the world on August 27, 1959 in Portland, Oregon born to Al and Alice (Hammel) Negratti. John was the baby of the family with five siblings (Alice Leigh, Carol Ann, Jimmy, Linda, and Janis).
“Baby John” was lovingly inspired by his sister Carol Ann. He became very active with the Oregon Special Olympics. The needs of children, special or otherwise, touched John, who was forever a kid at heart.
When he moved to Texas, he became involved with the Children’s Miracle Network.
His extended family, Marriott, supported John through the journey of life: growing into his professional self, getting married, having children, attending to the failing health and ultimate death of his parents, treading the numerous paths of parenthood - the list goes on. John had only one employer with whom he lived over 60% of his life! He launched his 32 year Marriott career in Portland right out of college working in the Health Club before a job opened in the Security Department. John soon joined a team opening new properties across the country before his career took him to Texas naturally landing in Human Resources. His assignment in Houston was a defining moment for him.
John met a beautiful, young woman, Ann Constantino. His life was wonderfully changed forever.
Ann became his best friend, his rock of support in the trying times and playful companion in times of joy.
John and Ann celebrated their 23rd anniversary in August. They welcomed two sons into the world who have brought them great pride and joy. Stephen and Christian have grown into kind, sensitive, and creative young men. They will continue to be a source of support and delight.
If you had the honor and pleasure of knowing John, calling him friend, you know he was a born “people person”. With an easy sense of humor, John loved to tell a good story, a gift from his Irish mother.
He enjoyed people and brought good times to all. There were no “strangers” in John’s life. Within short order, he engaged with others, made them feel comfortable while enjoying their company. John took exceptional pride and satisfaction in mentoring associates as they grew in their experience, performance, careers and lives. A favored quote: “If planning for one year, grow rice; if planning for a decade, grow trees; if planning for a century, grow people”. The growth and success of individuals was common content in many of John’s memories and stories shared with genuine pride.
“Love lightens all difficulties and sweetens all bitterness”: St Francis of Assisi
John treasured the many “Angels” in his life; his wife, sons, siblings, friends, and colleagues.
Heartfelt appreciation to Don and Liesa Leach, Mark Westby, and Joel Loeb. With sincere gratitude for the honest and compassionate care provided John during his illness, the family humbly thanks Dr. Linda Verkruyse and Dr. Rohan Jeyarajah. You have been exceptional medical providers and even more importantly, exceptional people who walked with John into and through the many stages of illness while providing the gentlest of support to Ann and her family.
