Nancy Elaine Oder

February 20, 1952 — February 6, 2021

Nancy Elaine Oder, 68, of Burleson, Texas walked into the arms of Jesus and was completely healed on Saturday, February 6, 2021, after fighting breast cancer for twelve years with tenacity, grace, grit and a warrior’s strength.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Saturday, February 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Skyvue Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 7220 Rendon Bloodworth Rd, Mansfield, TX 76063 with the Pastor Phil Gibson officiating.
Nancy was born in Pueblo, Colorado, the daughter of Roy Lee and Wilma Swartz. She graduated from East High School. Nancy married the love of her life, Tom, on November 2, 1968 in Pueblo, Colorado. She made him chase her, but always said she fell in love the moment she laid eyes on him. She knew the “value of the chase” and 52 years later he would chase her all over again! Nancy and Tom renewed their 50th wedding vows in 2018.
While serving as a dedicated Army wife and raising three daughters, Nancy earned her nursing license in 1982. She worked as an R.N. at Cook Children’s Hospital for many years and took care of her patients as if they were her own. Her family fondly remembers the many weekends spent with their “adopted siblings” - which they all loved. She adored her pediatric patients and their families, especially Derek and Tina. After leaving pediatric nursing she began working as a geriatric home health nurse and cared for her patients like she would her own mother. Nancy loved the Lord, family, giving, traveling, a good argument, and peach gummies.
Survivors include: Husband of 52 years, Tom Oder, three daughters, Melanie Heasley (Tim McCoy), Fort Worth, TX, Cheri Rose (Walter Rose), Granbury, TX, Shelly Green (Wade Green), Crowley, TX, five grandchildren, Brooke Dierke (Matt Dierke), Taylor Brooks, Kendyl Brooks (Austin Lezak), Brenden Green, Kyle Green and one great grandson, Jaxson Dierke, sister, Sandra Fankhouser, along with a large myriad of “strays” whom she also adored. The family of Nancy wish to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Sanjay Oomen, Dr. Jamie Inman, Genesis, Mary, the entire staff of Texas Oncology and Dr. Inman’s office. Also, to those
patients Nancy “flitted” and “fluttered” to in the waiting and treatment rooms she would want you to keep fighting the good fight!
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Nancy’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cook Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
