Fern E Raymond

Fern Elaine Raymond was born in Elmira, NY in 1941 to Fred and Julia Raymond. She moved to Illinois when she was eight and attended elementary and high school in Waukegan, Illinois. She went on to attend the Illinois Masonic School of Nursing where she was also active in Eastern Star. After a few years she moved to Phoenix, Arizona and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Coronary Care. Soon her mother and sister moved there, and they enjoyed travelling on her time off. It was in Phoenix that she made her commitment to her Lord and met lifelong friend at Peoples Church. She was involved in many ministries including a children’s bus ministry with her sister in Christ, Kathy Rutt.
Eventually her mother and sister, Norma decided to move to Dallas in 1975, joined by her other sister in 1976 who moved to Fort Worth. Fern began working at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas in the recovery room and became nurse manager and worked for 28 years before retiring in 2003. As a nurse she always put patient care first and upheld standards of care when there was any question on what decision was to be made.
She loved the staff she worked with and has many friends until this day. Fern always had many interests like cake decorating, quilting, making blankets, Bible study, organ classes with her lovely organ, and of course her beloved dogs, Cyrus and Diana who she joins in Heaven.
She had some recurring health problems and underwent an aortic valve replacement in 2012 which greatly improved her life but this year she was unable to rehab after a fall. She was ready to meet her Lord. She had a kind spirit. She could talk to anyone and always wanted to leave people better than before she came to visit.
Fern had a fun sense of humor and would tease her nephew and his family, so she was “the other grandma”. She had lifelong friends and family that loved her and will miss her until we she her again in Heaven.
