He was very independent and enjoyed self-employment, but his passion in life was stock car racing. He was a fierce competitor and successful in the sport for nearly half of a century. He began his racing career at the old Benbrook speedway and competed at some level well up into age. He made many friends through the sport of racing. He was also affectionately known as “PawPaw” to his grandchildren, and he loved being PawPaw.
