John L. Smith was born January 25, 1936 in Ivanhoe, Texas to Lewie and Cecilia Smith. John L. graduated from St. Paul High School in Neylandville, Texas. He later attended an upholstery trade school where he received a degree and became a master upholsterer. John L. accepted Christ at an early age where he was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wolfe City. He later moved to Fort Worth, Texas and joined Peaceful Rest Baptist Church, which is now Shining Light Missionary Baptist Church, where he had been a member for over 50 years.
John L. was self employed as a master upholsterer and worked at Edison’s, Rexall Drugs, Fort Worth Upholstery and Southtown Shopping Center for over 50+ years.
John L. loved traveling, fishing, spending time with his family, sharing words of wisdom, history and sharing his love of coins with his family.
John L. is preceded in death by his father Lewie Smith, mother Cecilia Winston-Smith, brothers Will and Earl Smith, sisters Mary Jo Smith-Garnett and Mable Smith Jones and nephew, Larry Smith Sr.
Survivors: brother O.C. Smith; nieces, Sheila Bradley, Annita Scott, Rhonette Lane (Bobby), Shirley Ballard, Debbie Wilson and Anita Kaye Smith-Greenwood; nephews, Bennie Jones III, Stanley Smith (Teresa) and Drayone Jones (Paulonica); great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends and his special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Weinberger.
