We lost a patriarch pillar in the family on Thursday, November 26, 2020, when dad passed away peacefully in his home of Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 85. Willie Stephens Jr., was born on March 12, 1935 in Greenville, Texas, to Willie Stephens Sr. and Sarah Alzena Stephens. Dad also had eleven older siblings born to Jim Barrett Sr. - Sarah Alzena Barrett-Stephens (11) Barrett’s and (4) Stephens. He was more frequently known as “Piggy” to the family, as “Dub-Dub” to his colleagues, as “Dad” to his children, and as “Granddad” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a big heart for family. Dad grew up in Greenville, Hunt County, Texas, his family were agricultural homesteaders. He took up the trade in home economics and auto mechanics. As a young man, he loved travelling out of town with his other siblings, and in the spring of 1956, in a small county outside of his hometown, in Commerce, Texas, he met a pretty young lady by the name of Vera Jean Champion. They courted for a while and married shortly thereafter, and made the move to Fort Worth, Texas. He later transitioned into becoming a self-made contractor. His construction company was called Dub-Dub Construction Company. Some of his many contributions were ground breaking foundations to beautiful private homes for his clients, several businesses and roadways for the City of Fort Worth, Texas. However, one of his pride and joy was engineering and executing the construction plan of his very own residence from which he lived in for more than fifty years with his wife Vera Jean Stephens of sixty-one years, where they raised their nine children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son, and 13 of his siblings. Dad is survived by nine of his children from Vera: Marilyn Ruan, Beverly Stephens, Willie Stephens III (Tammy), Cynthia Boatley (Rick), Loretta Patterson (Judd), Sarah Ford (Glend), Teresa Dozier, Gloria Flennoy, and Mark Stephens (Patty). Willie also have four daughters, Emma Stephens Batiste, Debbie Lee, and Lisa Lagrone, Denise, and two sons Lawrence Ellis (Martha) and Tyrone Anderson. Dad’s brother, Billy Ray Barrett, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad had a special place in his heart for all of his children and grandchildren. He had a special “nickname,” for each of them. Thanks for all who gave themselves tirelessly day in and day out for dad, your thoughts, prayers and love will not soon be forgotten. Dad was won over by his wife’s faithful conduct as one of Jehovah Witnesses, who raised all nine of their children as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Most importantly, he had an intimate relationship with his heavenly father, Jehovah. Dad always had a love for God’s Word, and he was a Progressive Bible Student, actively attending and commenting at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Edgewood Terrace Congregation. Those who aided Mr. Stephens in the truth of Jehovah’s Witnesses are the following: Bro.Thomas Mullinex Sr., and Mark Stephens. The hope is that God’s purpose for the earth and mankind will be fulfilled, life in a paradise earth with an end to sickness and death. Rev. 21:3,4. Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways take notice of him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5,6. In Paradise, the river of blessings will make everyone young and healthy.
We love you dad.
