Helen Marie Thompson, born on February 16, 1942 to James T. and Cora Battles in Smith County. She was preceded in death by her mother and father James T. and Cora Battles, her brother Author Lee Battles, as well as her sister Parthenia McDonald.
Helen accepted Christ as her Savior at Love Temple Church of God in Christ in Tyler, TX and she truly loved the Lord. She enjoyed singing, helping others and spending quality time with her family.
She was employed at Tyler Pipe where she served dutifully for over 20 years. She later resided in Ft. Worth, TX. where she lived out the remaining years of her life.
She is survived by her children, Victor (Delores) Jones, Elston (Juanita) Jones, Jackie Key, Cynthia (Allen) Ruffin, Zuleika Taylor. She is also survived by her brothers, Lefane (Katherine) Battles, James (Barbra) Battles, Maurice Battles and Fred (Helen) Battles. Her sisters, Pearline Domino, Elizabeth Holmes, Shirley (Chester) Cobb and Claudia (Floyd) Ferguson. Her grandchildren Tameka Williams, Camillia (Devin) Woods, Roketa (Shawn) Raiford, Tanesha Bryant, Nicole (Robert) Brown, Demarcus Thompson, Cecilia Jones, Angela Key, Jessica (Devale) McCain, Nicole Thomas, and Aleia Taylor; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
