Tommie Jane Mitchell Smith Collins left this world November 17, 2024. She is now free of pain and present with many loved ones.
Tommie Jane was born March 29, 1940, in Norton, Texas, seventh of eight children, to Joshua James and Mary Ellen Mitchell - all delivered by their uncle, Dr. W. W. Mitchell, and, incidentally, all taught by the same first grade teacher as well. Tommie Jane met Grady Smith when he came into Pruitt's Grocery on a work break from his lineman job with the telephone company. They were married September 11, 1959. Sadly, after 51 years, Grady died in 2010. Tommie was blessed to have met her second soulmate: Eddie B. Collins, and they married October 12, 2013. They enjoyed eleven years together until Eddie lost his battle September 17, 2024, just two months before Tommie.
"Tommie" to many, "Jane" to close relatives- throughout her life she had a constant parade of friends- from school, workplace, church, neighbors, every place she lived. This speaks of her loving kindness- remarkable to behold. She attended Central Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas, and enjoyed bird watching, playing cards and spending time with all her family and friends.
Tommie has reunited with several loved ones including Grady Smith, Eddie Collins, her parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Those left to carry on Tommie's memory are her sons, George, Russel and Clifford Smith, as well as bonus sons, Mark and wife Devy Collins, Randy Collins; bonus daughter, Lynn Morris; sisters, Maxine Garner, Shirley and husband Jim Ridgeway; brother, Jackie Michell; sister-in-law, Arlayne and husband Burt Francis; and many more family, extended family and bonus family just too numerous to name them all.
The family wishes to thank Hospice House at Huguley in Burleson, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider calling and ask how you can make a donation in Tommie's name.
