William Parker Darwin lived a long and amazing life. He passed away on August 15, 2024, just short of his 107th birthday.
William was born August 19, 1917, in Calvert, Texas to John Darwin and Fannie Harris Darwin. He graduated high school and went through college for a bit. He was married to the love of his life, but sadly she passed long ago. William retired from Everman, Texas, where he was a water department supervisor.
William Parker Darwin served in the Navy at a young age. He served in the Pacific Ocean as a swimming instructor and was trained as an underwater demolition technician. His mission was to go ahead of the landing crafts to clear the coral reefs that laid along the shoreline so that the landing crafts could come as close as possible to the shoreline to bring in the Marines and the Navy troops. He served aboard the Battleship Missouri. After his last mission, he returned to the states and was discharged in March 1946.
Mr. William Darwin is survived by his grandson, Chad Darwin of Dallas; 9 nieces; 6 nephews; and lived his last years with his niece Barbara Motley of Burleson.
